Plain sailing for Champion Sussex business

Brighton based Navigators & General (N&G), the UK’s largest and longest established pleasurecraft insurer, has been appointed an Investors in People Champion, one of only 63 UK businesses to achieve this award and the first ever from the marine industry to do so.

As a Champion, N&G will be acting as a role model to other organisations considering working with Investors in People. Staff will be carrying out training and mentoring sessions to help other firms adopt the best practices that helped N&G achieve Investors in People Gold, and now Champion, status.

N&G is a member of the Zurich Financial Services Group, a founder member of the British Marine Federation, and one of few firms to have attended every single London Boatshow. It employs 40 people and began working with Investors in People in December 2009, since when it has measured up to the requirements of Investors in People, which provides a framework for improving performance and competitiveness through training and development.

For customers of Investors in People recognised businesses, the framework provides reassurance in knowing that they are dealing with a professional operation, along with recognised benchmarks for service, accountability and product.

James Roberts, Head of Navigators & General, said: “Being awarded Investors in People Gold was fantastic, but to become an Investors in People Champion, a role model for others looking to embark on this challenging programme, is quite incredible. It speaks volumes for the hard work and customer care shown by every single member of the team. N&G is extremely proud to be an ambassador for the UK marine industry, demonstrating to the wider business community the high standard that can be found in our specialist sector.”

Commenting on Navigators & General’s achievement, Julie Price, Head of Client Services at Inspiring Business Performance (IBP), the Investors in People Centre for Sussex, said: “Navigators & General has only been working with Investors in People for a comparatively short time but the staff have achieved a great deal. The company is a worthy Investors in People Champion and I look forward to working with N&G on promoting the real business benefits to other organisations in the South East.”
